The Research Library of the Getty Research Institute invites
applications for the position of Serials Cataloger.

Responsibilities

Prepares complex adaptive and original bibliographic and authority
records for scholarly serials and monographic series, from special
collections to electronic journals, in a variety of formats and
languages.  Searches on-line databases, describes serials as prescribed
in AARC2, assigns subject headings and call numbers according to Library
of Congress practice, prepares name authority records for submission to
NACO, may reciprocally revise work within the Section.  Resolves complex
bibliographic problems.  Maintains awareness of current national
cataloging practice.  Contributes to establishing cataloging policies
and procedures within the Serials Section and the Research Library.
Assists in training other Serials Section staff.

Qualifications

MLS or Master's degree in art history or related field required.
Reading knowledge of 1-2 foreign languages.  2-3 years serials
cataloging experience.  Knowledge of AACR2, MARC, LC classification
schedules, LCSH, LCRIs.  On-line library database experience, word
processing skills, written and verbal communications skills, strong
organizational abilities.
