New Mexico State University Library is seeking candidates for the following
position:

Head of Technical Services

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Oversee operational management and work flow of a
newly merged technical services department; establish goals and priorities
for department; work with library administration to provide fiscal
management of a $2.3 million materials budget; directly supervise 4
technical services unit heads who select, train and evaluate staff (22
FTE); provide leadership and support to faculty in department; facilitate
communication within the department and other departments; serve on library
and campus committees.  As a member of the library faculty will pursue an
active and ongoing program of professional development, research, and
service appropriate for his/her rank at the university.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:  MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; demonstrated ability
to work effectively as a manager; minimum of five years of successful,
progressively responsible professional experience which includes recent
management of a technical services department, including acquisitions,
cataloging or serials units, in an academic library; knowledge of
acquisitions and cataloging issues; experience with allocating and managing
collections budgets; excellent interpersonal, written and oral
communication skills; superior problem-solving and organizational skills;
ability to work as a member of senior management group.

Preferred:  experience with automated acquisitions system including EDI and
fund accounting; experience in workflow analysis and design; experience
with Voyager; ability to plan projects and oversee multiple departmental
operations; solid understanding of the research university environment; a
strong record of professional accomplishments and commitment to ongoing
development; additional graduate degree.

POSITION INFORMATION: This is a 12-month tenure-track or tenurable at time
of hire position at rank of assistant or associate professor depending upon
qualifications.  Salary:  minimum of $45,000 (includes administrative
