Subject: Microform Arrangement and Access

Colleagues,
Members of a task force in Hesburgh Library at the University of Notre Dame
are reviewing the current arrangement and access to our microform
collections, fiche and film. In order to get a feel for the treatment of
microforms in other libraries we are posing a few questions to colleagues.
We'd greatly appreciate any answers to these questions, and other comments
you' want to make. Please reply direct to Barbara.A.Connelly.3@nd.edu.

Thank you.
1. How are your microform collections arranged?
__LC class
__ Accession number
__ Main Entry
__ Other
2. Do you have differing arrangements for fiche vs. film?
3. Do you have individual bibliographic records accessible through your
catalog for titles within the collections?
__All
__Some, commercially available or original cataloging
__None
4. How do you handle duplication of microforms in digital formats?
__ Keep both
__Send microforms to storage (accessible?)
__Discard microforms
5. If your microform arrangement is by LC class, how do you label your
microforms?
6. If given the opportunity, would you rearrange your microform
collections? If yes, how would you arrange it and why.
Please reply to porter.2@nd.edu
Thank you.
