Position: University of Delaware Library. Coordinator: Original
Cataloging and Authority Control Unit

Description: Reports to the Head, Bibliographic Control Department, this
position is responsible for overseeing original cataloging and assuring
authority control in the Library's integrated library system, DELCAT.
The incumbent has primary responsibility for the cataloging of
electronic resources, including electronic journals, and for the
cataloging of serials in all subjects, languages, and formats.
Responsible for the supervision of one librarian and two support staff.
Other duties as assigned. The Library will be migrating to a new ILS, Ex
Libris, in July 2002 and the successful candidate will have the
opportunity to work with colleagues in developing new workflows and

Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited masters degree. Minimum of 2
years cataloging experience. Working knowledge of Anglo-American
Cataloging Rules, 2nd ed. rev., Library of Congress classification,
Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress Rule
Interpretations, and MARC formats. Cataloging experience using a
national bibliographic utility and integrated online system. Strong
skills in interpersonal relations, and oral and written communication.
Ability to work productively and cooperatively in a complex environment
while maintaining effective working relationships. Preferred:
Cataloging experience in an academic library; experience cataloging
serial and/or electronic publications; supervisory experience. Knowledge
of one or more foreign languages.

Salary: Rank and salary dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Appointment at the Assistant Librarian or Senior Assistant Librarian
level. Minimum Assistant Librarian $34,000. Expect to hire at the Senior
Assistant Librarian level.

Benefits: Vacation of 22 working days. Liberal sick leave. General
flexible benefits program. TIAA-CREF or Fidelity retirement with 11% of
salary contributed by the University. Tuition remission/course fee
