New cataloging rule on free floater - Electronic Journal? Julia Esparza 16 Jan 2002 20:08 UTC

Dear friends,

We have hired a new cataloger and she mentioned in her previous place of
employment that they were applying the free floater Electronic Journal
instead of Periodicals to electronic journals.

I took a quick look at LC's newly updated CONSER Cataloging Manual
Module 31 Remote Access Electronic Serials (Online Serials) updated Fall
2001 and didn't find anything about subjects. I don't recall seeing
this in the Cataloging Service Bulletin.

Is anyone using this and if they are is it some guideline from LC or is
it from another source. I would like to think about doing this but I
would need to see the documentation on the reason to go back and change
a LOT of records. I would also like your feelings on how it improves
access for the user.

Please send your responses directly to me. If anyone else expresses an
interest I'll send the responses to you directly. Unless of course
there is a huge interest and then I will send it to the list.

Thanks in advance!

Julie
