Monroe Community College, a member of the League for Innovation in the
Community College, invites applications for the following part-time position:
Periodicals/Technical Services Librarian (part-time)
Reports To: Assistant Director for Operations and Public Service
Function of Position:
* Under the supervision of the Collection Development Librarian, develops the periodical and microform collections for the LeRoy V. Good Library in conjunction with the Information Resources Committee, including the addition and deletion of subscriptions in the LeRoy V. Good Library.
* Supervises Senior Library Clerk for Serials in daily operations.
* Assists in the development of policies and procedures for periodicals/microforms service in conjunction with the Information Resources Committee.
* Compiles usage statistics for periodicals/microforms and database collections.
* Reviews periodical and microform subscriptions annually for budget purposes and biannually as part of the collection review process.
* Tracks changes in print and microform subscriptions and reports on these to the Information Resources Committee.
* Investigates ways of indexing full-text journals/materials across the spectrum of the libraries database subscriptions in conjunction with the Information Resources Committee.
* Reports on availability of electronic full-text options to the Information Resources Committee and college librarians.
* Provides print list of subscriptions for librarian/student use.
* Provides assistance to the Damon campus Librarian regarding periodical collection coordination between the two campuses.
* Supervises Senior Clerk in bindery operations.
* Provides public service in the Periodical and microform areas as needed.
* Serves on the Information Desk a 3 to 5 hours per week and as emergency back-up when needed.
* Serves on Information Resources Committee.
* Other duties/committees as assigned by Director.
Qualifications:
MLS from ALA accredited school. Experience with periodicals, microforms and electronic resources required. Academic experience preferred.
Qualifications for Appointment:
Required:
1. Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
2. Experience with providing reference services.
3. Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, presentation, and public relations skills.
4. Proficiency with electronic and printed information resources.
5. Ability to work with a wide range of ages and cultural groups.
Desired:
1. Experience working in an academic library.
2. Experience with a wide range of standard office and graphics software packages, especially Microsoft Office Suite.
3. Technical experience in at least one of the following operating systems: Windows '95, Windows '98, Windows NT, or Windows 2000.
10-19 hours per week, some evenings and Saturdays. Rate of pay $19.76 per hour.
