Head of Acquisitions - Search Reopened
Responsibilities: The Head of Acquisitions oversees the operations of
the Acquisitions Dept. (16 FTE staff, plus students) which is organized
into four functional units: Ordering (monographs and serials in a
variety of formats including electronic); Receiving/Accounting;
Processing (includes periodical check-in, physical processing, and
bindery preparation); and Government Documents Receiving/Processing
(selective depository receiving approximately 75% of documents available
through the US Federal Depository Program). The Libraries' annual
materials budget is currently $3.3 million.
The head of Acquisitions participates in the Libraries' Department
Heads' Council. The position reports to the Assistant Director for
Administrative and Technical Services. Librarians at the University of
Wyoming hold faculty status with expectations for research and
scholarship.
Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited program or
equivalent. Minimum of three years professional experience in
acquisitions to include budgeting, purchasing, and dealing with vendors;
demonstrated ability to manage a large and diverse department or unit;
ability to work collegially with both faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications: Serials experience; experience with acquiring
electronic resources; knowledge of Endeavor Voyager library system;
knowledge of OCLC, AACR2, LC classification, U.S. Depository Program
requirements; familiarity with PeopleSoft applications.
Minimum salary $35,000, dependent on qualifications and experience;
12-month appointment, 22 days vacation; sick leave, group health
insurance, state or TIAA-CREF retirement plan, no state income tax.
