No . 2
Call for article proposals: "Internet Insider"
"Internet Insider" is a feature of COLLEGE & UNDERGRADUATE LIBRARIES.
"Internet Insider" seeks manuscripts that discuss issues affecting college
and undergraduate libraries' work with the Internet. "Internet Insider"
articles are not peer-reviewed.
Topics must be of a practical nature, addressing issues of interest to
practicing academic librarians in their daily work involving the Internet
and the Web. Examples of possible topics include, but are not limited to,
the following:
* inventive uses of courseware
* practical aspects of digitization
* Internet aids for collection management, cataloging, reference work, etc.
* creative use of the Web for increased job productivity, accuracy, etc.
* implementation of Web-based instruction
* full-text resources on the Internet
* innovative perspectives on Web site design and maintenance
* evaluating information quality on the Internet
Proposals are requested for the initial consideration of a topic. Proposals
should include a few sentences covering the general subject, why the subject
is considered to be of interest to academic librarians, and the anticipated
main point or points of the article. Please send your proposal via e-mail
to ksmith@library.msstate.edu. Please note that acceptance of a proposal
does not imply acceptance of the subsequent article, which will be
considered against other articles submitted.
The deadline for proposals for Vol. 9, No. 2 (expected to be published in
January 2003) is January 15, 2002. Final drafts and manuscript submission
forms will be due by March 15, 2002. The manuscript submission form and
general instructions for authors are available online at
http://www.haworthpressinc.com/pdfs/Jmanuscript.pdf . At the end of this
message are specific instructions for authors.
COLLEGE & UNDERGRADUATE LIBRARIES serves busy librarians in need of
practical information that enhances service to students and faculty in
college libraries and larger undergraduate libraries. It is a Haworth Press
publication, edited by Inga H. Barnello.
Best regards,
Kerry Smith, "Internet Insider" editor

Additional information for authors:
Length:
Because "Internet Insider" is a column (as opposed to the peer-reviewed
portions of the journal), length can be as short as 500 words, and as long
as 1500 words or so.
Manuscript Style:
Use simple, down-to-earth communication. Avoid language such as the
following: a functional analysis methodology for developing user-based
objectives. Avoid colloquialisms and contractions. References, citations,
and general style of manuscripts should follow the Chicago Manual of Style's
author-date system as described in the 14th edition (1993). References
should be double-spaced and placed in alphabetical order. (See manuscript
preparation below.)
Manuscript Preparation:
* Margins: Leave at least a one-inch margin on all four sides.
* Spacing: Double-space the entire article, including references.
* Paper: Use clean, white 8 1/2" x 11" bond paper (if you physically mail
your submission; e-mailed attachments in common word processing
formats--e.g., Word, WordPerfect--are preferred)
* Title page: Include a title page with the title, full authorship, and an
ABSTRACT of about 100 words. Below the abstract provide 3-10 KEYWORDS (for
index purposes), and an introductory footnote with author's academic
degrees, professional titles, affiliations, mailing addresses, and any
desired acknowledgment of research support or other credit.
* References: No footnotes. At the end of the article, in a section called
REFERENCES, provide a single list of endnotes and/or citations according to
Documentation 2: Author-Date Citations and Reference Lists, chapter 16 of
the 14th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (1993). Before the
references, list the three or four most important and relevant citations in
a boxed section called QUICK BIB. This is a trademark of C&UL.
* Proofread the article carefully and repeatedly before submission.
