Position available: Assistant University Librarian for Technical
Services, Saint Louis University.
Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit Institution dedicated to
education, research and healthcare, seeks applications for the position
of Assistant University Librarian for Technical Services.
Duties: This position has primary responsibility for the administration
of central technical services for the general research and health
sciences center libraries including acquisitions, serials control,
cataloging, catalog maintenance, binding, and materials processing. The
incumbent works with department supervisors to establish goals, set
priorities, and is responsible for the overall planning, resource
allocation and administration of the technical services division. As
part of the senior management team, the incumbent participates in
library policy formulation. This position reports to the University
Librarian.
Environment: Saint Louis University is a member of MOBIUS, a statewide
academic library resource sharing consortium utilizing Innovative
Interfaces Innreach software. The Assistant University Librarian
manages technical services by working collaboratively and productively
with three department supervisors for acquisitions, cataloging, and
serials, with a total departmental staff of seven librarians and
thirteen staff positions. Catalog Unit has NACO and OCLC Enhance
status. Strong support and expectation for professional development and
growth.
Requirements: MLS from an ALA accredited program. Strong record of
leadership and management of technical services. Knowledge of one or
more areas of technical services (cataloging, acquisitions, serials).
Successful supervisory experience in a productive and cooperative work
environment as well as demonstrated decision making, problem solving
ability, and planning skills. Demonstrated knowledge and experience
with an integrated library system (III preferred). Strong user centered
approach to technical services and information technology. Excellent
oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability and motivation for continuous professional development and for
growth as a faculty member. Ability to meet deadlines and to work
effectively in an environment of rapid development and change.
Rank/Grade: Associate or Professor rank, non-tenure track, 12-month
contract.
Salary and Benefits: Minimum $56,000 negotiable depending on
qualifications and experience. Attractive benefits including retirement
programs, insurance, tuition remission, and vacation.
