 Announcement of Vacancy

 Position:         Electronic Resources Librarian

 Salary:            Assistant Librarian I-Assistant Librarian III
 ($37,728-$42,780)

 Open:             Immediately

 Responsibilities:  Under the direction of the Head, Catalog Department,
 the successful candidate prepares original and adaptive cataloging,
 including authority work as needed. Enhances access to electronic
 resources through cataloging and the application of metadata.
 Coordinates creation of metadata for image, audio, and text-based
 digital objects. Collaborates with other library units/personnel in
 defining and using metadata for digital library collections. Addresses
 issues related to standards, record format and record contents for
 digital resources.

 Qualifications:  ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent. Training in the
 arrangement and description of library materials and standards of
 bibliographic control including AACR2R, LC Subject Headings, LC
 Classification and MARC21 record structures. Knowledge of and experience
 in use of automated systems in libraries. Familiarity with established
 and emerging metadata standards (TEI, XML, Dublin Core, RDF). Enthusiasm
 for examining new access methods from digital formats. Strong analytical
 and communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as to
 participate actively in team projects. New MLS graduates are encouraged

 The Environment:  The UC Davis General Library (www.lib.ucdavis.edu)
 ranks among the top 35 research libraries in North America, with current
 holdings of over 2.6 million volumes, including 39,306 currently
 received serials. The General Library is an active partner with the
 California Digital Library (http://www.cdlib.org/), and is currently
 embarking on several digital library collections initiatives.
