JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:  SERIALS LIBRARIAN

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 2 years of library experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS with cataloging, serials, and
electronic resources emphasis; 2 years of serials experience; Exceptional
organizational and analytic skills; Clear vision of technology into
curriculum and teaching; Direct experience with the latest computer and
telecommunications applications to library and educational services;
Demonstrated ability to communicate well in the university setting;
Committed to user instruction and the academic library's educational
mission; Active, productive involvement in professional activities;
Experience with common office software.

The Serials Librarian will be responsible for all serials functions and
library electronic resources.

SALARY: $30,000, non-tenure track position, yearly renewable appointment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a twelve-month position with faculty ranking. As a non-tenure
track position, it is renewable on a yearly basis. This librarian will
promote the use of information resources and technology in the university
academic environment. This individual will be responsible for maintaining
the collection of serial titles and producing and maintaining all records
necessary to this function which includes series and name authority work.

The incumbent serves as the resource for the library for the development
and implementation of a variety of paper, microform, and electronic
services. This includes working with licensing agreements. With input from
the library staff and director, the Serials Librarian will determine the
need for new or revised paper, microform, online, Internet, and CD-ROM
services. The person working in the position will develop procedures for
effective use of such materials and teach applications to the faculty,
students, reference librarians, and other library staff. In addition, the
position duties will include the development of supplementary tools such
as written handouts and help screens providing guidance in use of such
resources. The librarian will recommend equipment, software, budget,
training, and staffing requirements needed to support all forms of
information access needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of such.

The person holding this position will have the responsibility for staying
current with state-of-the-art electronic resources technology and services
by attending conferences, meetings, and reading the professional
literature.

The Serials Librarian will have an interest in integrating information
technologies with new distance learning programs. In addition, the
individual worker in this position will serve as the library liaison to
specific academic departments. This includes collection development and
discipline-related instructional sessions.
