Paul Leonard Library beginning spring 2002. The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill a combination of responsibilities in the areas of instruction, reference, collection development and liaison work with discipline-based faculty. Primary subject responsibilities in the biological sciences and health sciences. Librarians have full faculty status. Appointment is expected to be at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian with a minimum salary of $46,488. As faculty, librarians are expected to meet faculty requirements for tenure and promotion. Tenure is normally granted with seventh year reappointment. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited Masters in Library and Information Science. Academic background and/or professional experience in the biological sciences and/or health sciences. Ability to provide research advice and instruction at a general reference desk on the use of print and electronic resources, including government sources. Working knowledge of new and emerging technologies and familiarity with their impact on higher education and research. Ability to work independently and as a member or leader of a team. Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse campus constituency. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong service ethic. Able to work evenings and weekends. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least one year professional post-MLS academic library experience with instruction and reference responsibilities. Experience and demonstrated knowledge in the teaching of electronic resources, including Internet/World Wide Web-based resources and understanding of the issues related to their delivery and access. Knowledge and experience with collection development and management of print and electronic resources supporting university curricula. Potential to support other subject areas. Experience with Web development and/or management. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Serve as a subject liaison to departments and programs which may include a combination of the following: Biology, Biomedical Laboratory Science, Health Science, Nursing, Physical Therapy, others as needed. Provide basic research advice and instruction for all subject disciplines at general reference and government publications desks as well as via electronic reference services, during varied times including some evenings and weekends. Teach students and faculty to identify, locate, access, evaluate, use information effectively through reference service, classroom instruction, individual consultation. Collaborate with discipline-based faculty to foster information competence and advanced research proficiency. Manage collections, including selecting resources in all formats, analyzing their use, handling collection evaluations to support department and college self-study reports, and monitoring and developing collection foci in support of changing curricular needs. Provide leadership for the Library to facilitate its participation in university initiatives. Serves as the primary liaison to the campus Division of Information Technology. Oversees the accessibility, safety, security and maintenance of physical facilities; supervises the Building Coordinator and Exhibits/Graphics Coordinator. Serves as administrative liaison to campus offices responsible for capital planning and plant operations, university police, environmental health and occupational safety, ADA compliance and services for students with disabilities. Plays lead role in planning renovations or new library construction. QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in library, information or computer science or other appropriate field; a minimum of 5 years of appropriate experience with progressively responsible administrative responsibilities, including management and budget planning in at least one of above named areas; some experience with library automation systems, preferably Innovative Interfaces, Inc.; broad and demonstrable knowledge of trends and policy issues in computing and information systems with a focus on key issues in higher education and academic libraries such as digital technology and electronic resources; and some combination of knowledge and/or experience with technical support and trouble shooting for computer systems in a networked environment.
