Is there a standard language for retention information? We
need to input retention information in our local note field
590 and we wonder if there's an existing standard language
for this kind of information? We have looked in the
following publications but could not find what we wanted:

American National Standard for Information Sciences - Serial
Holdings Statements
Holdings Statements for Bibliographic Items (ANSI/NISO
Z39.71-1999)
US MARC Format for Holdings Data (Network Development and
MARC Standards Office) July 1994

We need to know if there is a standard for retention
statement, i.e., "Retains latest five years", " Retains
latest issue only,"
"Retains for one year only until microform arrives," etc.
and if so, where do we find it? If not, does anyone have a
sample list?

Thanks in advance for your help.
