SERIALS ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
Position Description: The University of Iowa Libraries is seeking a
creative and energetic person to provide leadership in the acquisition
of
serial resources in all formats. The incumbent will coordinate the
acquisition of serials with selectors and bibliographers, and maintain
business relationships with serials vendors. S/He will resolve order
problems, design and review acquisitions reports, and assist in the
review
of vendor performance. The incumbent will also monitor trends and
maintain
currency in emerging issues in serials acquisitions, and evaluate and
recommend new ways of interacting with vendors. In addition, the
incumbent
may supervise library assistants responsible for order, claim, and
financial processing.
Other duties will include maintaining unit statistics and preparing
appropriate statistical reports; planning, setting goals and priorities,

formulating policies, designing and monitoring work flows; allocating
staff.
This position reports to the Head of the Serials Section.
Qualifications:
Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school; ability to work
both
independently and as a team member on a variety of issues in a dynamic
environment; strong communication and organizational skills; aptitude
for
complex, analytical work with attention to detail; demonstrated
problem-solving skills; flexibility; ability to prioritize work to
ensure
that departmental and library goals are realized; ability to work
effectively in a production-oriented environment; and a demonstrated
commitment to professional growth and development.
Preferred: Experience in serials acquisitions in an academic or research

library within the last three years; supervisory/management experience;
demonstrated interest in the issues related to serials acquisitions;
knowledge of AACR2r and USMARC formats; recent experience with an
integrated library system and with OCLC and/or RLIN; and working
knowledge
of one or more foreign languages.
Salary and Appointment: Appointment will be made at the rank of
Librarian I
or II and salary will be based on relevant experience and educational
background and will be competitive with peer institutions. The salary
range for this position is $26,410 - $48,325. The University of Iowa
