ALA / ALCTS Newspaper Users Discussion Group
Saturday June 16, 2001 2 to 4 PM
Senate Room at the Renaissance Mayflower
La ciudad de San Francisco
MEETING NOTICE
The Newspaper Users Discussion Group, at ALA in San Francisco, will meet
at its usual Saturday afternoon time slot. This summer we have several
great discussion opportunities.
Myrtle Myers, Consulting Product Support Specialist, OCLC Online
Computer Library Center, Inc., will speak about "The USNP Union List,
from Passport to the Web." In a 'focus group' type of setting, DG
attendees will have the opportunity to talk about an OCLC Web Interface
for Union Listing, Union List displays, and what needs there will be for
holdings in the future.
Diane Sheldon-Ku, Marketing Manager, UMI Division, ProQuest Company,
will speak about ProQuest Historical Newspapers. "What if 150 years of
The New York Times could be searchable online all at the same time?"
Diane will update us on the Digital Vault Initiative's effort to bring
history to life.
Additionally, we might want to consider the declaration from Nicholson
Baker that "The worst newsprint is still page-turnable and usable ..."
Other items for discussion are always welcome additions to the agenda,
either before or at the meeting.
