INTRODUCTION TO MARC
(August 13, 2001; 1/2 day; $25)
This 1/2-day workshop introduces trainees to MARC records - their
history,
structure, and application to library functions. The overall focus of
the
workshop is on interpreting MARC records of all types by understanding
the basic
structural elements (e.g. tags, indicators, subfields). In-depth MARC
tagging
is covered in other, format-specific workshops.

MARC21 AUTHORITY FORMAT
(August 13, 2001; 1/2 day; $25)
This 1/2-day workshop introduces trainees to the USMARC Authority format
and its
relationship to the MARC bibliographic format. Topics include the
purpose and
structure of authority files, basic concepts of authority control,
interpreting
authority records, and searching the OCLC Authority File.

MARC BIBLIOGRAPHIC FORMAT
(August 14, 2001; 1 day; $45)
This workshop covers the MARC bibliographic format and how to interpret
bibliographic records. Topics in this in-depth workshop include the
purpose and
structure of the MARC bibliographic format and functions of the leader,
tags,
indicators, and subfield codes. In-depth MARC tagging is covered in
other,
format-specific workshops.

MARC21 HOLDINGS FORMAT/SERIALS FORMAT
(August 15-16, 2001; 2 days; $150)
This 2-day Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP)
workshop
introduces trainees to the MARC21 Format for Holdings Data (MFHD) and
ANSI/NISO
Z39.71 holdings standards. It provides the basic principles of creating
holdings records and serial publication patterns. Instructions and
exercises
are system-neutral, but if time permits will include discussion of local
system
implementation.
