The Southern California Technical Processes Group Presents ...
Mining the Web: Bringing Control to Chaos Program:
There are approximately one billion Web pages that can be searched
by the traditional search engines, but it has been estimated that in the
"deep" Web there may be 550 billion documents! Search engines vary in
their ability to discover relevant resources, none provide any evaluative
information. How can Libraries participate in bringing control to this
chaotic explosion of information? Our program will present 2 approaches to
enhancing resource discovery on the Web: Valerie Bross & Angela Riggio
will discuss the CORC initiative; Margaret Mooney will present Infomine.
At the end of the day Michael Gorman, always provocative, will present his
views on the Internet with a talk titled "Choosing & Cataloguing the Best
of the Web."
