Here is an excellent opportunity to work at the world's largest public
library devoted to science and business. The salary listed below is what
was being offered before the union negotiations were ratified. The current
contract includes a substantial salary increase.
Position Open: Librarian II
Science, Industry and Business Library/Technical
Processing
Hours: Monday ? Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Evenings and Saturdays as required.
Schedule subject to change.
Salary: $34,055
Eligibility Requirements: MLS from an ALA accredited library school and two
years of professional experience in a large research library or similar
institution. Undergraduate degree in science or business preferred.
Demonstrated experience supervising and training new librarians and support
staff. Successfully demonstrated cataloging experience. Successfully
demonstrated experience using Integrated Library systems and cataloging
utilities in a cataloging or processing environment. Demonstrated
experience with microcomputers, word processing and spreadsheet
applications, and on-line databases. Knowledge of western European
languages preferred.
General Description: Under the general supervision of the Head of Technical
Processing, processes Science and Business materials, mainly serials,
including U.S. government documents. Performs searches on OCLC and RLIN;
catalogs, maintains online records, including quality control, revision,
and trouble shooting. Processes cessations, title changes, relocations to
stacks and open shelves. Catalogs, maintains and updates SIBL's open shelf
collections. Trains and supervises technical staff. Participates in
preservation projects. Acts as a liaison with Cataloging, Acquisitions,
SIBL Access and other SIBL units. Maintains a service-orientated focus in
technical processing. Assists the public with both print and electronic
resources in science and business. Works at information desks, telephone
reference and in the electronic resources center. Presents instructional
classes for the public on the use of the library resources. Participates in
SIBL teams, task forces and committees. Performs related duties as
required.
