Lynda S. Kresge Wins First NETSL Award

The New England Technical Services Librarians (NETSL) Board is proud to
announce that the recipient of its first annual NETSL Award for Excellence
in Library Technical Services is Lynda S. Kresge, Associate Head of Harvard
College Library Technical Services at Harvard College Library. During the
NETSL 2001 Conference held at the College of the Holy Cross on Friday, April
20, 2001, John DeSantis, NETSL President, presented Lynda with her award
before an audience of over 280 attendees.

Among the reasons for which Lynda was chosen, the calligraphic certificate
of award cited her "exemplary leadership in human resources management that
has resulted in building technical services communities of the highest
professional expression" and her generosity in "sharing her knowledge of
team-building, cross-training and challenges of technology through
insightful presentations and publications." In his presentation, DeSantis
also included quotes from the letters of support for Lynda, which, among
other things, attested to her "planning, analytical, and organizational
skills," "dedication to the profession," "articulate, thoughtful, and
creative" leadership, and "good will, quick wit, and fine sense of humor."

The NETSL Award for Excellence in Library Technical Services recognizes and
honors significant New England-based contributions to the field of technical
services in one or more of the following areas: (1) Leadership in
professional associations at the local, state, regional or national level;
(2) contributions to the development, application, or utilization of new or
improved formats, methods, techniques, and routines; (3) significant
contributions to professional literature; and (4) conducting studies or
research in technical services. Selection of a recipient is made from
among the candidates whose names and qualifications have been submitted to
