Subject: web pages & promotion/tenure survey
Dear colleagues,
We are writing to request your help in obtaining important information
about current views in academic librarianship toward a particular
professional contribution in regards to its consideration in promotion
and/or tenure decisions. (If you do not work in an academic library,
please disregard this message. We appreciate your time.)
Our particular research focuses on the value attributed to professional,
but non-job-related, web pages. We define such web pages as those created
(and presumably maintained) by a librarian for the profession, not as a
condition or duty of the individual's specific job. Examples of such web
pages would include web bibliographies for fellow library professionals, a
library employment site, or a page for a library association.
We invite you to respond to a brief online survey by May 11, 2001. The
Web address is given below. Your input will help to clarify the status of
these contributions, which we hope to make public in a future journal
article. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you may leave
blank any items that you do not feel comfortable answering.
We sincerely appreciate your participation in this research effort, and we
assure you that any data released as a result of this survey will never
identify you in any way. We welcome any questions or concerns, which may
be addressed to us via the contact information below.
