Since David Goodman brought it up, I'd like to ask in general when the
requirement for librarians to publish began. I'm a new academic librarian
and I do have the typical requirements: publishing, professional service,
campus committees, etc. I'm just curious how this developed and why some
institutions are tenure-track and others aren't. I have to agree that the
longer you're in the field, the more expertise and knowledge you have. I
had assumed that faculty status meant better pay for academics, but
apparently this isn't always true. Your thoughts and comments would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks,
