Jim, et al.:  This isn't illogical to Haworth and others.  This is a typical
marketing strategy.  When an existing market begins to dry up, companies try
to create a new market and sell the idea that everyone has to have whatever
product it is that is being sold - in this case a new journal.  Haworth
isn't the only press to do this.   The other thing I particularly dislike
about Haworth and the creation of new markets is their 'journal monograph'
strategy.  They take an issue of one of their journals where all of the
issues are focused on a particular topic, reproduce it, and then sell it as
a "must-have" book.  Unwary acquisitions departments can and often end up
spending precious dollars for the exact same information in their
collections twice - once from their periodicals budget and the second time
from their monographs budget.  I guess as long as there is a need/desire for
information, companies such as Haworth will continue to "create" new
markets.

 OK - I'll fire the first volley.  I have seen a couple of other
announcements about this and a host of other new highly-specialized
Haworth Press journals.

 I personally find this extreme splintering journals to be not only
unfortunate, but actually absurd.  To begin a number of new titles at the
very time when well established journals are having a difficult time
obtaining papers to publish is illogical.  The "number and format of
serial information" may have exploded, but no one is writing about it, and
there are several existing options for publication if any are written.

 I would welcome comments from Haworth as to their reasoning behind the
establishment of this and other recently announced journals, and who they
think is going to buy them.
