Re: Inserting tattle-tapes in periodical issues

This is slightly off the serials tack, but involves tattle-tape strips:
Please, DON'T (& yes, I think I did mean to "shout"!) use tattle-tape
inside phonorecord jackets if the records are unprotected -- when warm,
the goo from the tape comes off on the record and then the little metal
bits follow, and you get one unholy mess. Nothing will take it off, and
it leaves whole bits totally unplayable.
As my new "signature logo" shows, I'm no longer a serials cataloger or
even anything to do with serials; one of my new projects is assessing
the condition (and damage) of our phonorecord collection, and I've been
heartsick about the thousands with tattle-tape damage ... here they
survive up to 50 years of use and remain in truly wonderful condition
except for the damage which unthinking library staff caused.
As I'm in a "new" position, I'm also low on the totem pole this year,
and will probably not get time off for this year's conference -- I'll
miss you all!
Best regards,
Kathleen
