Hamilton College Library
Director of Technical Services

Hamilton College seeks a self-motivated, thoughtful, and flexible librarian
with a strong technical services background to lead the acquisitions,
serials, cataloging, and bindery operations of the library.  We seek a
knowledgeable and experienced librarian who will take a leadership role in
the library, and will be a catalyst for new initiatives.

The director of technical services reports to the college librarian.  As a
member of the library's senior management team, s/he will work to design
services, create policies, develop budgets, and plan projects. The
successful candidate must be willing to experiment with new approaches to
technical services, and be committed to fostering cooperation both within
the library and with other areas of the college.

The director administers a division of 2 librarians, 9.5 staff, and student
assistants; sets goals and determines priorities; and supervises and
evaluates personnel.  S/he will be responsible for collection development
in one or more subject areas.

The library is in the process of selecting a new automated system.  The
successful candidate will provide leadership for implementing the new
system with specific responsibilities for technical services.

Hamilton is a residential baccalaureate liberal arts college of 1,740
students located in picturesque upstate New York, in proximity to Utica and
within easy driving distance to Albany, Syracuse and the Adirondacks.  It

consortia.  It has holdings of over 550,000 volumes, over 2,500 current
subscriptions, and adds 12,000 new volumes annually.
