Subject: Microfilm cleaning

My director asked me a question this morning and I'm not sure of the answer.
 How often should microfilm reels be cleaned?  We at one time had a cleaning
machine that applied a liquid to the film similar to what is done for 16mm
film cleaning.  We actually cleaned all of the microfilm reels at our main
library and most at our branch before the machine broke.  That was at least
12 years ago.  Does anyone still clean their film?  How often? What
equipment do you use?  TIA for any help
