About Wellesley College Library: With a collection that dates from the
founding of the College (1875), the Wellesley College Library has
extraordinarily rich research resources. Composed of a main library and
branches for science, astronomy, art and music, the collection numbers
1.3
million items in a wide range of formats. The College Archives is
located
within the main library, as is Special Collections with its focus on
rare
books, fine printing and artists' books. Stewardship of these resources
is
an institutional priority, with support for preservation activities
provided by endowed funds that are directed specifically to this
purpose.
A preservation program has been in place for many years; a
state-of-the-art conservation facility opened in 1999. As the
Information
Services Division, library and technology staff together deliver a wide
variety of high-quality services to support the educational mission of
the
College. The library was awarded the first "Excellence in Academic
Libraries" award for 4-year colleges by ACRL in 2000.
