Hello.

The January 20, 2001 issue of New Musical Express (NME) states on the
cover
that it is "now incorporating Melody Maker." This Library subscribed to
Melody Maker, and this is the first issue we received of NME.

It looks like NME absorbed Melody Maker, but this is not yet reflected
in
the OCLC record I located.

The last issue we received of Meloday Maker was vol. 77, no. 51 (Dec.
20,
2000). Does anyone know with more certainty if this was the last issue
published?

Also, in answer to another SERIALST question, SFPL is very happy with
our
serials vendor, EBSCO.

Thank you very much.

Stephanie -- It appears that the title you used to receive, Melody
Maker,
has been incorporated into the title, New Musical Express, and that's
probably why you're getting the latter title. Yes, it would be best if
publishers wouldn't just automatically send the new title, but often
they
do, assuming you'll want it, or hoping you/your patrons will get used to
having it and won't want to do without it at renewal time. Often,
however,
if the vendor knows what's happening with a title like this one (i.e.,
if
the publisher informs the vendors), the vendor will usually contact
customers (by their usual methods -- reports, e-mail notifications,
etc.)
explain the situation, and ask customers to respond with their decision
by
a certain deadline rather than automatically sending the fulfillment or
new
title.

Information found on Swets Blackwell's DataSwetsConnect reflects:

Under Melody Maker, the entry reflects:
Melody Maker (ISSN: 0025-9012) ceased/superseded - Dec 2000; has been
incorporated after 12/31/2000 into the title, New Musical Express (ISSN:
0028-6362).

Under New Musical Express, the entry reflects:
Incorporates Melody Maker after 1/1/2001. Warning: Publisher
condiditons
require that this title must be ordered to start after April 1, 2001.

Hey y'all,

Apparently Melody Maker has ceased recently, and our vendor substituted
New
Musical Express. Upon examination it appears that these are two
entirely
different titles...do other subscription agents do this as well? I'd
think
that the new choice would be entirely up to us, but I'm still relatively
unexperienced in these matters.

Thanks!
