Serials and Electronic Collections Librarian
The Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) Library seeks energetic and
creative applicants for the position of Serials and Electronic
Collections Librarian. Working in a highly automated environment, this
individual will manage the Serials Department and will support
collection development activities by coordinating vendor services and
the licensing and implementation of electronic resources. This position
reports to the Head of Access Services.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Plan, coordinate and manage the overall operation of the Serials
Department
* Facilitate an interdepartmental serials team responsible for day to
day serials management including ordering, tracking, checkin, claiming,
preservation and binding and vendor contacts
* Serve as a member of the Collection Development Committee
* Collect and organize electronic resources use data to support
collection development decisions
* Work with other OHSU system libraries to coordinate serials management
efforts
* Manage print and electronic serials and other electronic resources
(e-books, databases) subscriptions including vendor negotiations,
licensing and implementation
* Maintain ongoing contact with serials and electronic resources
vendors; evaluate new vendor services, arrange for vendor
demonstrations; monitor vendor compliance
* Assist in the management of the migration of serials data from current
integrated library system to Innovative Interfaces; coordinate use of
serials control unit at other system libraries
* Assist in maintaining the Library's electronic journals Web page
(http://www.ohsu.edu/library/ejournals/) and other electronic resources
pages including authentication procedures, use analysis
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* MLS from an ALA-accredited library and information science program
* Minimum of three years experience working with serials in an automated
environment
* Minimum of two years supervisory experience
* Working knowledge of MARC format used in serials holdings records
* Experience using electronic library resources including integrated
library systems, e-journals, databases and other bibliographic utilities
* Ability to develop and manage WWW pages
* Facility with microcomputers and basic software applications; ability
to identify and implement new technologies
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Public service experience
* Experience negotiating licenses for electronic resources
* Experience working in a health sciences or academic library
* Experience with a library systems migration
RANK AND SALARY:
This position is an academic appointment. Salary range: $40-45,000
depending on candidate's qualifications and experience, with generous
benefits.
