Position Title: Library Assistant IV (Part-time)

Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head Cataloguer of CONSER, performs a variety of
duties involving serials cataloging using prepared copy. Searches HOLLIS, OCLC
and other appropriate databases for cataloging copy and authority records.
Edits cataloging copy and enters and maintains records on HOLLIS and OCLC.
Creates and adjusts holdings records in HOLLIS. Inputs authority records.
Creates bibliographic records subject to review. Gathers and reports cataloging
statistics. Communicates with library staff at many varied Harvard libraries.
Assists in training of and/or assigning work to casual and support staff
personnel. NOTE: Part time position (17.5 hours per week). This job requires a
minimum of 2 hours per day working on the computer. CONSER (Cooperative Online
Serials) is a national cooperative program for cataloging serial publications.
Required Education, Experience, Skills:
Bachelor's degree preferred; technical services experience in an academic or
research library highly desirable; demonstrated competency in
keyboarding/typing required; in addition to fluency in English, demonstrated
working ability with at least one Western European language required, two or
more preferred; ability to pay close attention to detail essential; must be
able to function cooperatively in a work team, with flexibility and versatility
in an evolving work situation; must have excellent organizational and
interpersonal skills and be able to work with minimal supervision in performing
complicated, routine tasks.
