HEAD, CATALOGING DEPARTMENT

Florida International University seeks a creative and knowledgeable
leader for Head, Cataloging Department, Green Library, University Park
Campus, Miami. The Libraries have Enhance Status and use OCLC and NOTIS
to catalog materials. The successful candidate is responsible for the
daily operation and overall management of the cataloging department,
which consists of 3 librarians, 11 support staff, and a varying number
of student assistants; sets goals and priorities; reviews cataloging
policy and procedure; performs and oversees original cataloging in a
variety of formats, oversees database maintenance, special projects and
online authority work; serves as a major resource for cataloging
questions; coordinates departmental
activities with other library departments. Provides services to the
Libraries and the University in an elective or appointive capacity by
serving on Library, University
and professional organizations committees as appropriate. Reports to
the Assistant
Director for Collection Management.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS from an ALA accredited program; 5 years
of professional experience, with progressively increasing supervisory
responsibility. Experience in cataloging materials in an automated
environment, knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, LCRI and an understanding of the
principles of authority control. Should possess strong interpersonal
skills and commitment to the service mission of the academic library.
Preferred: Knowledge of and/or experience with NOTIS, Dublin Core (or
other metadata indexing), and cataloging electronic resources.
SALARY: Up to $50,500 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
RANK: Associate to University Librarian. Librarians have faculty
status. Benefits include 22 days vacation and competitive range of

including TIAA/CREF.
