SAN FRANCISCO LAW LIBRARY
HEAD OF TECHNICAL SERVICES/SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN
Responsibilities: Coordinate and supervise all aspects of technical services
for public law library. Support and lead technical services staff in new
technologies and systems. Develop procedures, documentation and training
programs for all technical services systems. Provide original cataloging,
cataloging assistance, and authority work. Assist in planning and reviewing
short and long-term goals and objectives for TS department.
Administer library's Innopac and Novell networks. Coordinate with City's
Department of Technology and Information Systems for additional technical
support. Assist with maintenance of library's website. Implement and manage
all automation projects. Assist directors with long-range automation planning.
Example of duties
Supervise, train and support technical services staff in acquisitions,
continuations, processing, maintenance, repair, and bindery procedures
Develop staff guides for automated technical services
Train all staff on opac, circulation system, and internet
Provide technical support to staff in systems, applications software and
workstations
Provide basic Novell and Innopac network system maintenance (back-ups, user
rights, etc.); basic troubleshooting of workstations and peripherals; install
software
Coordinate with reference staff for implementation of new electronic resources
Implement and supervise stacks maintenance projects
Vendor liaison
Statistical and other reports
Requirements: Master's in Library Science, at least 3 years managerial and
supervisory experience in Technical Services, preferably in a law library;
experience with an integrated library system, preferably Innovative; experience
with Novell network administration; demonstrated training skills; highly
organized and adept at setting and balancing quickly shifting priorities;
excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to do original
cataloging; expert knowledge of AACR2, MARC format, LCSH and LC classification;
knowledge of text markup languages and Web page design.
Compensation: This is a full time position with a competitive salary and
excellent benefits. Salary depends upon qualifications and experience.
The Library: The San Francisco Law Library, a county law library, has three
branches to serve the public, members of the Bar and the judiciary. It is the
oldest public law library in California and houses a collection of 300,000
