Acquisitions/Collections Librarian
James Madison University

development.

Responsibilities: Manages the ordering and receiving of materials,
participates in vendor contract negotiations, coordinates the library’s
approval plan, and supervises acquisitions staff. Coordinates collection

assessment and general collection development in an environment where
liaison librarians are responsible for discipline-specific collection
development. Assists the Director in analyzing and managing budget and
budget projections for monographs, serials, electronic subscriptions and

other resources and in negotiating licensing agreements as requested.
Serves on the departmental management team, as a member of the Library’s

Collection Development Committee, and as a liaison to an academic
department.

Required qualifications: Accredited MLS; current awareness of national
trends and developments in collection development issues; excellent
communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management
skills; excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; knowledge of
budgeting, approval plans, MS Excel and Access; ability to apply
technology to a diverse range of library applications; strong public
service orientation; and an aptitude for complex, analytical, and
detailed work.

Desirable qualifications: previous supervisory experience and ability to

foster teamwork among all levels of staff preferred. Experience using an

automated acquisitions system.

12-month faculty appointment. Salary and rank commensurate with
qualifications and experience, minimum $37,000. Competitive compensation
