I read with interest the listserv message regarding a 2 day workshop
regarding serials cataloging in Kansas. Do you know if there are any
similar training sessions scheduled for anywhere in Wisconsin or Northern
Illinois? Thank you.

Subject: Basic Serials Workshop in Kansas

BCR (Bibliographical Center for Research) is pleased to add a serials
cataloging workshop to its autumn training schedule. "Basic Serials
Cataloging" is a two-day workshop covering the basic principles of
serials cataloging for original and copy cataloging for both print and
electronic serials. "Basic Serials Cataloging" will be offered at the
Lawrence (Kansas) Public Library on October 19-20.

The course focuses on the elements contained in the CONSER core record,
as well as on problem-solving and decision-making relative to serials
cataloging. All materials are based on the CONSER Editing Guide and
CONSER Cataloging Manual. The workshop is offered in cooperation with
the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program. The course is
designed for those new to serials: beginning serials catalogers and
technicians and monograph catalogers who work with serials.

Two instructors will teach the workshop: Margaret Mering, principal
serials cataloger at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and Patricia
French, serials cataloger at the University of California at Davis.

The cost for the two-day workshop for BCR members is $200 with early
registration, $225 for those who register after October 1 (non-BCR
member pricing is $275 with early registration, $300 after October
1st). A limited number of spaces are available, so do not wait until
the last minute to register. For more information about the workshop,
contact Regan W. Harper (rharper@bcr.org) at the BCR offices. To
register for the workshop, contact Bobbi Navarro (bnavarro@bcr.org).
