LIBRARY ASSISTANT I, SENIOR PERIODICALS ASSISTANT, #00-119
SALARY: $2371 - $3093/Monthly
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; non-exempt
classification.
Essential Job Functions: The Senior Periodicals Assistant has primary
responsibility for the periodicals receiving operation; ensures correct
records-to-titles matches and recognizes and reports discrepancies in
bibliographic records to the serials cataloger. Checks in periodicals
and supervises one student assistant. Maintains periodicals check-in
records and resolves problems. Adjusts prediction patterns;
communicates with vendors to obtain information on titles and identifies
title changes, mergers, etc. Creates brief bibliographic records and
maintains "library has" field in bibliographic records. Claims issues of
late periodicals, orders new subscriptions, and inputs financial
commitment to online database. Provides scheduled service to library
users at the Periodicals Service Desk, assisting users to locate known
items.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Three years of Library Clerical Assistant experience; OR Two years of
Library Clerical Assistant experience and two years of college or 60
units; OR one year as a Library Clerical Assistant and four years of
college or 120 units; OR completion of a trainee program. Demonstrated
ability and/or interest in a working in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural
environment.

Work Schedule: Tuesday through Thursday, 1:00 p.m. � 10:00 p.m.; Friday,
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, 9:45 a.m. - 6:45 p.m.; non-exempt
classification.
Essential Job Functions: Under the general direction of the Periodicals
Function Group Leader, the Periodicals Evening Supervisor works with
student assistants and other staff to answer questions, solve problems,
explain or obtain information for users. The incumbent supervises
Periodical Desk student assistants and is responsible for recruitment,
hiring, training, scheduling, formal evaluation and dealing with
disciplinary matters; analyzes scheduling requirements, develops student
assistant budget and monitors expenditure of approved budget. Updates
records for periodicals and resolves related problems and adjusts
prediction patterns and check-in records to reflect frequency or
numbering changes or unexpected/problem receipts. Performs miscellaneous
functions, related to the series of projects for transformation of the
Periodicals Collection.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Three years of Library Assistant I experience; OR Two years of Library
Assistant I experience and two years of college or 60 units; OR one year
as a Library Assistant I and four years of college or 120 units.
Demonstrated ability and/or interest in a working in a multi-ethnic,
multi-cultural environment.
Special Qualifications Desired: At least two years supervisory
experience managing a group of at least two individuals. The ability to
lift up to 25 lbs.
