The IFLA Committee of Biological and Medical Libraries has chosen Sao
Paulo, Brazil, as the venue for the 9th International Congress on
Medical
Librarianship, which will take place on October 16-20, 2005.

Organized every five years since 1953, the Congress will be held in
Latin
America for the first time, and will be host by the Latin American and
Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information - BIREME/PAHO/WHO.
Celebrating the presence of the ICML in the region, the organizers will
assemble all efforts to achieve a successful meeting, and offer
everlasting joyful memories of the event in the country.

Commitment to Equity has been chosen by the organizers as the 9ICML
theme.
Considering its major importance for the worldwide development of
health,
it is intended that Commitment to Equity will offer an opportunity to
focus our attention on the understanding that knowledge should permeate
all action in human health, with a view to strengthening the universal
and
equitable access to scientific information worldwide towards health for
all.

The organizers expect this Congress will also offer an unique
opportunity
for professionals of the region to exchange their experiences with
colleagues from around the world. To promote and strengthen cooperative
activities and alliances in search of our Commitment to Equity, BIREME's
team is already involved in planning the programme, as well as
professional and social events.

BIREME is a center of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the
World Health Organization (WHO) office for the Americas, responsible for
the technical cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean in health
sciences information. The Center and the organizers look forward to
meeting you all in 2005 in Sao Paulo.
