> Summary of Position:
> Provides overall management of the Serials/ Collection Management Unit.
> This position reports to the Assistant Director for Collection Management.
> Supervises mail receipt, serials check-in, bindery, serials ordering,
> invoicing, claiming and serials exchange (through MLA Exchange Program).
> Directly supervises two Library Assistant II positions.
>
> Examples of work:
> 1). Supervises serials unit which acquires and receives periodicals,
> standing order and continuation titles. Library maintains over 1,900
> current periodical subscriptions. Position is responsible for orders,
> encumbrances, claims, payment of invoices, and bibliographic verification
> of serials in all physical formats.
>
> 2). Resolves serial record conflicts and problems with the receipt of
> serials and other publications.
>
> 3). Leads the serials team; trains and supervises staff involved in
> ordering, check-in, binding and processing.
>
> 4). Tracks expenditures of serials invoices. Works closely with vendor
> representatives to solve problems.
>
> 5). Prepares reports and proposals and compiles statistics as required.
>
> 6). Maintain serials records in the local online catalog and reports
> changes to state, regional and national Union Lists. Also maintains
> vendor file within Horizon, the library's integrated library system.
>
> 7). Participate in library's Strategic Planning process.
>
> 8). Other related duties as assigned.

> Desirable knowledge, abilities and skills:
> Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, meticulous
> attention to detail, ability to perform repetitious tasks with a high
> degree of accuracy, self-motivation and discipline, ability to work either
> independently or within teams and to use judgment on when to seek advise
> or assistance of supervisor.
>
> Education and experience:
> Bachelor's degree required, coursework at the Master's level helpful.
> Three to five years of direct serials management experience required.
> Supervisory experience required. Familiarity of OCLC database is highly
> desirable. Familiarity of integrated library catalogs is highly desirable
> (library uses epixtech's Horizon system). Knowledge of Windows operation
> system and spreadsheet software is highly desirable.
