Position. Serials Librarian, Harvard Medical School,
Countway Library

The Countway Library of Medicine is seeking a Serials specialist to
provide leadership in the areas of collection development, acquisitions,
and access control for the library's extensive print and electronic
serials collections.  The Countway currently subscribes to 3,000
bio-medical journal titles in print, 600 electronically, and the
Library's retrospective holdings include additional 20,000 serial titles.

Located in Boston's Longwood Medical area, the Countway serves the
teaching and research faculty, staff and students of the Harvard Schools
of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Public Health. This is an exciting
opportunity to work in a newly renovated world-renowned medical research
library and participate in Harvard's vibrant academic and cultural
community.

The Serials Librarian will select and acquire titles for the collection in
both print and electronic form, coordinate the annual review of journal
subscriptions, and contribute to the development of the electronic
resources program, particularly access to e-journals.

Other duties include managing serials control operations including
holdings updates, check-in, and claims, supervision of bindery preparation
and journal replacement, and evaluation of alternative formats. The
Serials Librarian supervises, leads, and mentors a staff of 3.75 FTE.

Required experience, education, skills:
MLS, minimum three years professional library experience. Serials related
experience in a research or bio-medical library including selection,
acquisitions and serials control. Successful supervisory experience.
Excellent communication skills including facilitation of group and
decision-making processes.

Preferred: Collection development experience in an academic medical
library. Knowledge of best practices in acquisitions and serials
management, and knowledge and enthusiasm for incorporating electronic
resources into operational library practice.

Salary: Minimum $41,900, higher depending upon qualifications and
experience.
