Subject: Discussion at ALA: Implementation of MARC Format for Holdings Data
 (revised)

Apologies, in the message I posted earlier, for omitting the name of
the sponsoring committee:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The ALCTS Committee to Study Serial Standards would like to invite you to
hear and participate in a discussion of implementing MARC Format for
Holdings Data (MFHD). MFHD is a way to represent your holdings in your
ILS system in a machine-readable form to interface with other systems such
as union catalogs, serials check-in, and interlibrary loan. MFHD is based
upon the ANSI/NISO standard, Information Interchange Format Z39.2-1994.
The content of MFHD is compatible with ANSI/NISO Z39.71-1999 Holdings
Statements for Bibliographic Items.

Monday, 7/10, 9:30-11:00 in the Skyway Room 272 of the Hyatt Regency Chicago

Some of the people discussing these standards and implementation include:

Frieda Rosenberg of UNC Chapel Hill, a member of the CONSER Task Force on
Publication Patterns and Holdings

Helen Gbala of Ex Libris, a member of the Z39.71 Standards Committee

Ted Fons of III

Ellen Rappaport of the Albany Law School, a member of the Z39.71 Standards
Committee and a member of the CONSER Task Force on Publication Patterns
and Holdings

The newly revised edition of MARC 21 Concise Format for Holdings Data is
available from the Library of Congress or
http://lcweb.loc.gov/marc/holdings/echdhome.html

ANSI/NISO standards are available from NISO Press or www.niso.org
