ASSISTANT HEAD, ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT-- LIBRARIAN I or II
The University of Massachusetts Amherst Library seeks candidates for the
position of Assistant Head, Acquisitions Department. Responsibilities
include: assist the Head of the Acquisitions Department of the
University
Library; coordinate day to day activities of the department, with
specific
responsibility for management of the monographic section; act for the
department head as required; and provide creative leadership and
direction
in an increasingly collaborative and quickly changing acquisitions
environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Master's degree in library science from an American Library
Association-accredited library and information studies program.
· Working knowledge of at least one modern European language.
· Minimum of one year of relevant, recent bibliographic experience in
this
or a comparable research library, with preference given to acquisitions
experience.
· Knowledge of domestic and foreign publishing industry, including
trends
and issues related to the acquisition of monographs and serials in an
academic or research library environment.
· Thorough knowledge of AACR2 rev. cataloging principles, OCLC database
searching, and MARC coding.
· Experience or coursework in accounting, statistics and/or finance.
· Experience using spreadsheet software and preparing financial reports.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a collegial
work
environment that encourages change and innovation. Ability to interact
effectively and work productively, collegially, cooperatively and
collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups in a changing
environment.
· Experience in planning, organizing and supervising the work of others.
· Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills.
· Ability to analyze and resolve difficult bibliographic and ordering
problems.
· Ability to analyze work processes and plan for applications of
technology.
· Familiarity with on-line integrated library systems, preferably
Innovative
Interfaces, Inc., desirable.
SALARY: Commensurate with advertised qualifications and experience.
