BAS acquires, organizes, preserves and provides effective bibliographic
access according to internationally accepted standards and practices to
collections of materials and recorded scholarly information in a
multiplicity of physical formats (including electronic format).  BAS
Units are responsible for ordering, receiving, cataloging, transferring,
withdrawing and maintaining up-to-date holding records in the OPAC
(Online Public Access Catalog) and in OCLC for all materials in all
physical formats acquired by the University Library.  The incumbent,
under the direction of the BAS Serials Coordinator, will process new
periodical checkins; claims for periodical titles; added volumes to the
OPAC; perform database maintenance for serial and periodical titles in
assigned HEGIS areas; set-up new standing orders and subscriptions;
pre-sort, batch and distribute mail.  Under the direction of the BAS
Monographs Coordinator, the incumbent will perform cataloging ranging
from DLC to contributed copy in all formats; perform ordering functions
when assigned; other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:  Any
combination of the sublisted experience and education that provides the
required knowledge and abilities may qualify:

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
3 years library clerical assistant experience. No minimum requirement
OR  2 years library clerical assistant experienceAND2 years/60 semester
units
OR  1 years library clerical assistant experienceAND4 years/120 semester
units

Basic knowledge and understanding of periodical/serial bibliographic,
order and checkin records; working knowledge of Anglo-American
Cataloging Rules (AACR2); one year of periodical/serial processing
experience; working knowledge of OCLC; good organization, analytical,
and problem-solving abilities; accuracy, flexibility, and effective
communication skills are required; ability to complete work assignments
within deadlines and to work well in a team environment. Desirable:
Experience with periodical/serial checkins and claims; experience with
set-up of standing orders and subscriptions; experience with Innovative
Interface, Inc. integrated library automation systems and OCLC CatME
software; experience in an Academic Library.
