James Madison University is seeking a self-directed, innovative, and
energetic librarian to shape new approaches to organizing and accessing
Internet resources. James Madison University, often cited in the
national media as one of the best regional public universities in the
country, has been a leader in higher education in the state and region.
The university is located in Virginia�s beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

Responsibilities: Collaborate with web development team to apply
database technologies and metadata standards to the library's web
presence.  Develop cataloging policies and procedures for print and
electronic journals.  Supervise serials copy cataloging. Serve as
liaison to selected academic department.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS. Cataloging experience. Knowledge of
AACR, MARC, metadata standards, and information retrieval. Capacity to
learn constantly and quickly. Knowledge of markup languages, web design,
and Internet search skills. Excellent communication, analytical, project
management, and interpersonal skills. Strong service orientation,
initiative, flexibility, and intellectual curiosity. Supervisory
experience and ability to foster teamwork among all levels of staff.

12-month faculty appointment with excellent state benefits. Salary and
rank commensurate with qualifications and experience, minimum: $37,500.
