RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ASSISTANT HEAD, ACQUISITIONS, NCSU
LIBRARIES

The North Carolina State University Libraries invites applications and
nominations for the position of Assistant Head, Acquisitions
Department.  The department consists of two professionals and 22 FTE
support staff.  Working with a  collections budget over $7M,
Acquisitions is responsible for  ordering and receiving all materials,
including government documents and gifts; managing the budget;
establishing and maintaining relationships with vendors; and
facilitating licenses for electronic resources.  The NCSU Libraries is
deeply committed to building digital and print collections that support
a wide range of services to faculty, students and staff.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions, assists in all aspects of
management of the department.  Works intensively with large fund code
structure; supervises expenditure of funds and works with Collection
Management to set up annual budget and to monitor fund codes.  Works
with vendors to expand availability to full-text in digital formats;
collaborates with Systems to design work flows appropriate to upgrades
of DRA integrated library system; and works closely with Special
Collections to facilitate their orders and receipts.  Advises department
on publishing trends, especially in digital formats.  Acts as primary
liaison to  Special Collections, branch libraries, and Systems. In
absence of head, responsible for department.  Member of Collections and
Technical Services Heads group, serves on library-wide committees, task
forces, and teams and is expected to be active professionally.

Qualifications
Required:   ALA-accredited MLS.  Three years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of budgets and fiscal controls in automated environment.
Familiarity with cataloging practices.  Demonstrated supervisory
skills.  Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
skills.  Ability to work independently and in teams.

Preferred:   Familiarity with issues involving electronic resources.

Salary and Benefits
The Libraries offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Librarians have academic status without tenure or rank.  Benefits
