We have eliminated some of our print journals -- mostly those where the
electronic version is in a stable and reliable (as far as the history of the
electronic environment can be called reliable to date!) place ... for
example, journals whose back issues are in, say, JSTOR, or Project Muse. As
for other candidates, those journals whose electronic version is with a
society where one could be assured long-term maintenance of backfiles, would
seem to me to be prime candidates at this point. Of course, if an archiving
agency did fail, in the course of time, to maintain its bibliographic
obligation, one ususally has recourse to microfilm.
