Subject: Life Magazine

One of our staff pointed this out to me yesterday and I thought you
all would find it of interest. From the Monday, March 20, 2000 _USA
Today_ (the newspaper):

" 'Life' goes on (Hiatus): Life magazine, whose photojournalists have
shot some of the most memorable images of the past 60 years, will no
longer be published as a monthly as of May 1. In a statement Friday,
parent company Time said the "formula for a monthly, general interest
magazine was just not sustainable." Life, which has showcased the
photo essay since November 1936, will continue to publish periodically
to record special events. It also will continue publishing books. Life
was a weekly until 1972."

Sigh. Another one bites the dust. And what exactly, does "periodically"
mean? To us in the serials world, I suppose it means "irregular"!
