POSITION: Collection Development Librarian
Central College, Pella, Iowa, invites applications for a service-oriented
librarian to manage collection development, to integrate electronic
resources and materials into the collection, and to participate in
instruction programs in an outstanding liberal arts college library of
210,000 volumes accessed by an Innovative Interfaces system and the
Internet.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: A twelve-month, tenure track position reporting to
Director of Library. Salary and rank dependent on qualifications and
experience. Expected start date July 2000.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA/MLS; liberal arts background with
wide-ranging research interests; 1-2 years relevant experience in an
academic library with an integrated library system; demonstrated reference
& teaching skills with a wide range of resources and technologies;
experience with budgets and licensing agreements; demonstrated abilities
with, OCLC, AACR2, MARC formats, web page creation, and desktop
applications; excellent organizational & interpersonal skills; evidence of
ability to meet requirements for promotion and tenure; Desired: experience
with Innovative Interfaces system and knowledge of electronic, national
and foreign publishing.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage collection development including selection,
budgets, licensing agreements, acquisitions and serials; integrate
electronic resources into catalog and access systems; supervise
acquisition/serials staff; serve in reference rotation including one
evening per week; help develop and teach information literacy programs;
participate in planning for library expansion and developing strategic
initiatives in a dynamic information environment; support for the
colleges mission is expected.
GEISLER LIBRARY: The Library's mission is to provide students with the
information they need to achieve their highest academic potential and to
help them acquire research skills necessary to life-long learning. Library
resources include a growing collection of 210,000 volumes, subscriptions
to over 850 print journals, 370 continuations, web-based journals and
indexes, 55,000 microforms and an Archives featuring college and local
history collections. The Media Center houses 10,000 items in all formats.
Branch libraries include Music and Chemistry. All collections are accessed
by a networked Innovative Interfaces system available throughout campus
and from the web. The Library's web page provides access to WebPac,
EBSCOHost, FirstSearch, Lexis-Nexis, Britannica Online and selected
Internet links to enhance student and faculty research. More information
