Position Title:  Serials Cataloger
Harvard University Library, CONSER Office

Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of the HUL CONSER Office, the cataloger creates and
maintains bibliographic records for currently received serial titles in all
formats and at the various levels defined as a part of the CONSER Program.
Completes associated name authority work through the NACO project as part of
Harvard's commitment to the CONSER Program. May also prepare holdings records
using the guidelines of the USMARC Format for Holdings.  Participates in
training and supervision of bibliographic and student assistants, and in
workflow coordination.  Contributes to the Office's workflow by accomplishing
related duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Skills:
MLS, or MLS degree near completion, from an ALA-accredited library school.
Preference given to candidates with reading knowledge in a Western European
language and ability to complete bibliographic work in various languages;
familiarity with AACR2, LC classification and subject heading systems, CONSER
documentation, MARC serials and holdings formats, OCLC and HOLLIS highly
desirable; knowledge of online name authority structure and pre-AACR2
cataloging rules helpful; must be flexible, have documented analytical and
problem-solving abilities and work effectively in a collaborative,
goal-oriented, productivity-conscious environment.

Additional Information
The HUL CONSER Office oversees the University's commitment to the national
CONSER Program and reviews bibliographic, authority and holdings information
for the libraries contributing to the Program through the CONSER Office.  The
serials cataloger is responsible for the cataloging activities for centralized
libraries participating in the Program.
