      University)

Catalog Librarian      (Re-opened March 14, 2000)

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit Institution dedicated to
education, research and healthcare, invites applications for the position of
Catalog Librarian, Pius XII Memorial Library.

Duties:  Under the direction of the Senior Catalog Librarian, provide
original and complex copy cataloging, database maintenance, and authority
control, according to established national standards and consortial
policies.  Serve as resource person for unit staff in matters relating to
cataloging and authority control under the guidance of and in the absence of
the Senior Catalog Librarian.  Advise and participate in workflow
efficiencies and service improvements.

Environment:  Saint Louis University is a member of MOBIUS, a developing
statewide academic library resource sharing consortium that currently
includes the libraries of the four University of Missouri System campuses
and Washington University.  Over a three-year period MOBIUS will grow to
fifty Missouri academic libraries.  The position reports to the Senior
Catalog Librarian, within the Catalog Unit of a collaborative and productive
Technical Services Department.  Strong support and expectation for
professional development and growth.

Requirements:  ALA-accredited MLS.  Will accept and train an exceptional
entry level candidate, but prefer experience with a bibliographic utility
such as OCLC and an integrated library system (Innovative Interfaces
preferred) for cataloging in an academic library.  Self-motivation and
flexibility in meeting individual and unit goals with regard to quality and
quantity of work.  Knowledge of principles and practices of bibliographic
control and experience with AACR2-R, Library of Congress classification and
subject headings, and USMARC formats.  Reading knowledge of one or more
Western European language.  Ability and motivation for continuous
professional development and for growth as a faculty member.  Ability to
work cooperatively with staff at all levels.  Strong service orientation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Rank/Grade:  Non-tenure track Instructor or Assistant Professor rank,
12-month contract.

Salary:  Minimum $30,000 negotiable depending on qualifications and
experience.  Attractive benefits including retirement programs, insurance,
