LIBRARIAN SENIOR
HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS CATALOGER

State Historical Society of Wisconsin, Cataloging Section of the Library
Division. Starting salary is $13.87 per hour plus excellent benefits. A
six-month probationary period is required. This position is represented by
the Wisconsin Education Association Council Bargaining Unit.

JOB DUTIES: Prepare original and edited cataloging and classification for
monographs and serials held or acquired by the State Historical Society;
review and direct paraprofessional catalogers in the use of on-line
cataloging systems to produce cataloging, copy and holdings records.
Publicize the library's collections and instruct patrons doing library
research.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Advanced knowledge and ability
to prepare and edit original descriptive and subject cataloging for
monographs and serials, including microforms and electronic publications,
using OCLC and Voyager; cataloging facility in French; knowledge of
standard cataloging tools such as AACR2r, OCLC, MARC, Library of Congress
classification and LCSH; knowledge of current national cataloging trends
and issues in library automation; advanced general librarian skills and
abilities and ability to train, direct and evaluate the work of
paraprofessional library staff, including student workers.  Submit an

education, training and experience related to the following area: 1)
cataloging materials and classification schemes used; 2) computer skills
used for cataloging and holdings (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, OCLC,
Endeavor Voyager, etc.); 3) serial and monograph cataloging experience; 4)
knowledge of North American history; and 5) foreign language skills as
they relate to library services. Completed application materials must be
