The Libraries seeks a knowledgeable, self-directed and energetic
librarian
interested in the field of digital information to help coordinate the
selection, licensing, rights management and implementation of digital
resources. The Electronic Resources and Scholarly Communications
Librarian
will be responsible for communications within the Libraries, the
University,
with consortial partners, and with vendors about digital resources, for
negotiating and monitoring vendor contracts, for maintaining records of
purchase, and for evaluating new and existing resources. This position
requires excellent communications skills, the ability to negotiate
complex
agreements, an understanding of the evolving world of
network-accessible
electronic resources, the ability to communicate and coordinate with
subject
specialist at University Park and librarians at all locations of Penn
State,
and considerable diplomacy. The librarian will work with the Gateway
librarians and staff to implement general resources and may, depending
on
subject expertise, contribute to collection development and instruction
in a
subject area. The successful candidate will play an active role in the
Libraries in copyright and intellectual property issues and will assist
in
the establishment of a strong role for the Libraries within the
University.
The Electronic Resources and Scholarly Communications Librarian reports
to
the Assistant Dean for Collections.
Qualifications: Requires an ALA accredited MLS or equivalent advanced
degree. Prior experience in collection development and/or the selection
and
acquisition of electronic resources preferred.
Penn State, a land-grant institution, is a member of the CIC (Big 10)
consortium. A recent U.S. News & World Report survey ranked Penn State
University as 10th (tied for 10th place) among public universities.
Penn
State University Libraries is a member of ARL, OCLC, RLG, CRL, and the
Digital Library Federation. Collections exceed four million volumes.
The
University Libraries are located at University Park and 23 other
locations
throughout Pennsylvania, with about 6,000 faculty/staff and nearly
40,000
students at University Park. The University Park campus is set in State
College, a university town located in the heart of central
Pennsylvania.
State College offers a vibrant community with outstanding recreational
facilities, a low crime rate, and excellent public schools. The campus
is
within a half-day drive of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia,
New
York City, and Pittsburgh.
This is a tenure-track faculty position. Evidence of potential for
promotion
and tenure will be considered. The successful candidate will be
expected to
be active in research, scholarship and service as a faculty member at
Penn
State. Salary and rank commensurate with experience; minimum salary
$35,000.
