Subject: cataloging internet services
the catalogers at dudley knox are in a state. i have become this library's
"expert"/sole cataloger of web sites to which we subscribe. i'm also the
serials librarian and i seem to have this deep-rooted desire to catalog
everything with serials elements. this has led to some dissention among the
ranks here.
how are other libraries handling the cataloging to internet services? today
it was argued that the "bibliographic level and type" in the fixed fields
should be mm and not ms. it was further argued that the date type field
should not be c but t. at least i was able to add a 362 to the record i was
working with. i've also been adding 006 fixed fields to these records but
today i feel that they are not wholly appropriate.
cheers,
